I felt like today was the beginning of a shift of power in the house - and it wasn't in my favor. The twins seemed to be everywhere all at once and into everything. I felt surrounded and thought about raising the white flag in surrender. All I did, literally, was chase them around saying "no" and picking up after them.
One would streak to the kitchen to get in the pantry (which they can open) while the other would shred toilet paper (because they learned how to open the slider door to the bathroom too). One was pulling out sandwich baggies by the dozens while the other was playing in the dog water. One started climbing onto the kitchen table while the other was pulling the chair out from under their cohort. Will actually dug in the trash can to get a cookie that I threw away and Hayden was right beside him waiting for her scrap (I really do feed these kids!).
When they're not going in opposite directions, they're beating on each other with some toy that has morphed into a weapon and is being used to bean someone over the noggin. Amid all the chaos there's Lydia, who was building a fort in the living room with all of the couch cushions. She was diligently stocking it with every toy we own only to have it destroyed by an invasion of the twins which resulted in high pitched squeals of terror and a lot of crying.
At mealtime, they dump bowls of cereal on their heads and throw hot dogs and cheese at the dog while trading sippee cups between themselves and fighting over strawberries. Hayden has taken to throwing the most incredible tantrums. They really are quite impressive, and she can make her body go so limp you almost think there are no bones in it.
Poor Lydia has become a TV junkie during the day and a professional pantry raider because I am so preoccupied with the minions of mischief. I'm not complaining, just stating the facts. They have shifted in to high gear and I'm just trying to keep up.
